Drawing and figurative work have been the cornerstone of my practice.

After graduating from art school in Australia, my early years of studio-based practice and exhibition were defined by artist-run initiatives of the nineties.  Arts residencies with health and welfare services in Toowoomba, Cairns and Brisbane turned my attention to portraiture and capturing something of peoples story.

In 2000 I moved to Minjerribah, North Stradbroke Island and a fascination with its rich island ecology brought on a new wave of art making inspired by spirit of the land.

My camera is full of images from this remarkable location.

My sketch books are brimming with visual annotations from this exquisite island location.

The colluding of all these elements have made for a fascinating turn in my art making to a kind of personal mythology inspired by the creatures, land and sea scape of my island home Minjerribah, North Stradbroke Island. Please contact me to arrange a studio visit at Pulan Pulan (Amity Point).

My ancestors traversed the North Atlantic Ocean from the highlands of Scotland’s north-west to the Shetland Islands, Norway and Nova Scotia.  My footprints on Minjerribah, like my artworks are intended to sing up and celebrate spirit of the land.
